He Said What?! Idaho State Senator Chuck Winder Suggests Women Use "Rape" as Excuse

| Jacqueline M.

In the Idaho state senate, during the closing arguments yesterday of a mandatory ultrasound bill, state Sen. Chuck Winder suggested women might use rape as an excuse to obtain an abortion. Seriously? See his comments below:

“Rape and incest was used as a reason to oppose this. I would hope that when a woman goes in to a physician with a rape issue, that physician will indeed ask her about perhaps her marriage, was this pregnancy caused by normal relations in a marriage or was it truly caused by a rape. I assume that's part of the counseling that goes on.”

It’s bad enough that this law represents an outrageous example of government overreach. By requiring a survivor of rape or incest seeking abortion care to have a state-mandated ultrasound — Idaho lawmakers are inserting themselves in the middle of a doctor-patient relationship. But to insinuate that women are using rape as an excuse? That’s just appalling.

I agree with having women who are considering abortion to be required to get an ultrasound, Facing up to the facts, especially when human life is in the balance, is being responsible. I also think Sen. Winder was just trying to say that every avenue should be explored to help women in this situation so that they do make a fully informed decision and can feel good about the decision they are making.

Kathy Schuster is right on point! It lets you know the true agenda of people who scream Big Government and socialism

One would hope for physcian sensitivity in cases of rape or inscest, the question is in itself accusatory. Treating trauma victims as liars is not the answer. Asking physicians to become policemen isn't good health care. Why isn't this mandatory ultrasound bill seen by those who oppose "Big Government" shouting "socialism" why is it only "socialistic" when it involves
business? I don't believe the government belongs in the treatment room.
