Newt Gingrich: Newly Minted Featured Chump

Newt Gingrich: Newly Minted Featured Chump

| Heather H.

In what has seemed like a never-ending game of musical chairs to determine the primary alternative to Governor Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich’s turn has finally come for a look by GOP primary voters.

Gingrich may have a reputation for “big ideas,” but his record on women’s health can best be characterized as backward and wrong. With his rapid rise in the polls, he's catching our attention too--as a Featured Chump.

During his 20-year stint in Congress, Newt Gingrich earned his anti-women’s health stripes.

Representative Gingrich cast 74 votes on reproductive rights, and all but two of them were anti-women’s health — putting him on the wrong side of women’s health 97 percent of the time.

If anything, Gingrich’s position on women’s health has gotten WORSE since he left office in 1999. Just a few weeks ago, Gingrich said he supports a federal “life at conception” amendment and thinks Congress should use its authority to “define life and therefore undo all Roe v. Wade for the entire country in one legislative action.”

Other things Newt supports:

• eliminating funding for Title X, the national family planning program, which provides preventive health care to millions of low-income women

• eliminating all funding for Planned Parenthood and barring health centers from providing care

But that’s not all! In an effort to increase his appeal with the far right, he signed the Susan B. Anthony List’s anti-women’s health pledge, promising to

• advance “pro-life” legislation

• defund Planned Parenthood

• nominate strict constructionist judges to the federal bench

• select only “pro-life” appointees for relevant Cabinet and executive branch positions

While he may be gaining “Newtmentum,” his record against women is unwavering. One thing’s for sure, no matter how big the line of credit he has at Tiffany’s—he’ll always be a serious Chump to us.

Tell Newt you’re watching…

Funny isn't it, how every pro-choice woman is alive because another woman was pro-life.

To Newt Gingrich:

I feel sorry for you and I feel sorry the people in your life. Clearly you and those who support your ideas believe yourselves to be in charge of my body. So sad. Let’s reverse this idea and assume I’m in charge of yours. I can tell you what to eat, how to dress, what job are allowed to hold and most important, how you decide the most intimate aspects of your life; your sexuality. You sir, if not for the fact you are still alive, would be my top choice for the “Darwin” award. For, if I were in charge of your body the way you feel you’re in charge of mine I would most defiantly make sure you did not procreate!

I would call you a pig but they are much nicer than you. A pig would not leave a sick wife, screw around with a whore, marry her then dump her for wife # 3. All this while giving President Clinton hell for his misconduct.

I am tired of the continued patriarchal interference woman of the US are subjected to when it comes you our health and reproductive rights. This issue is high on my list of items that will determine how I vote in all coming elections.

DON'T DEFUND PLANNED PARENTHOOD!!!

It's sad that in the year 2011 women still have to fight to protect their rights to their OWN body!

Newt, you will never get my vote. You served your first wife with divorce papers whilst she was in a hospital recovering from cancer. Your current wife was your mistress during your second marriage. You tried to get Clinton impeached while you were participating in a 6 year affair. This is all I need to know about your character. You, sir, will NEVER get my vote. Who wants a president named Newt anyways?!?

I won't be voting for you, Newt, and I plan to convince as many others (that need convincing) to do the same.
