Quote of the Day: Rep. Carolyn Maloney Says Women Deserve an Apology

| Jacqueline M. | Video

Rep. Darell Issa (R-CA) may have apologized for accusing Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) of lying about the gender breakdown of the infamous House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform’s hearing on women’s health—when he refused to allow a single woman to testify in support of a birth control benefit. However, Rep. Maloney doesn’t believe the apology went far enough.

Today, while accepting his apology on the House floor, Maloney spoke out for women everywhere:

"In the fallout from that unfortunate hearing, women were called far worse than 'liars.' I know what I said and I know it to be true. But I do think the women of America are owed an apology ... an apology for denying them a voice ... and an apology for denying them a place at the table. It was wrong then. It is wrong each time it happens ... And to cavalierly dismiss or deny that fact does greater damage to the fabric of democracy than words can ever redress."

She’s been our champ of the week before, and she’s proving herself worthy of the title today! Watch the full video of her remarks below:
