Romney tripling down on commitment to cut family planning

| Heather H.

It's sad to see a politician so completely transformed from somebody who gets women's health (supporter of Planned Parenthood), to somebody ready to throw it under the bus. Last week, Mitt Romney completed his transformation from thoughtful moderate to unmistakably anti-choice politician when he suggested that the way to balance the budget is to cut Title X funding.

From the NYT Caucus blog:

“I will slay the deficit beast. It’s killing jobs, it’s shadowing our future, and it’s keeping our kids from the bright prospects they deserve…

There was one additional program the crowd was eager to add the list — federal funding to Planned Parenthood. Before Mr. Romney’s speech began, Doris Hingtgen, 80, a retired Dubuque resident, said that while she was backing Mr. Romney, she was hoping he would “come out a little stronger on the right-to-life thing.”

When Mr. Romney worked the crowd after the event, smiling tightly and quickly moving along to the next person when a man thanked him for “acknowledging climate change,” no fewer than four voters asked him about Planned Parenthood, and if it was one of the programs he’d defund as president.

“That is on my list of programs to eliminate,” said Mr. Romney, who hadn’t mentioned the program in his speech.

Not exactly breaking news, as he announced it last week in an op-ed in USA Today, but let's make no mistake. Mitt Romney can't be trusted with women's health.

My bro bookmarked this blog for me and I have been going through it for the past couple hours. This is really going to benefit me and my friends for our class project. By the way, I enjoy the way you write.
