It was a little over a year ago when Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) pushed an amendment that would have barred Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funds that go to providing essential and lifesaving services to millions of women each year.
While the amendment swiftly passed the Republican-dominated House, it was defeated in the Senate in a final bipartisan vote. The government nearly shut down over funding for Planned Parenthood, but that was just the beginning.
Since January of last year, bills targeting women’s health have been introduced in all 50 states. Across the country, politicians have been playing games with women’s health. But women will remember who turned their backs on us and who voted to keep us healthy. On Election Day, women will be fighting back.
