We Trust Women! So We're Marching in Trust Women Week.

| Jacqueline M.

You may have seen the Trust Women Virtual March that began on January 20th, and runs through this Friday. We’ve joined MoveOn.org and some 50 other organizations in the first-ever Trust Women Week campaign, because, as we say daily here at Women are Watching, we need to hold our legislators accountable for what they say and what they do—and we’re watching. And unfortunately, many of them are doing all they can to limit women’s health, not expand it.

As we move into the 40th year of Roe, thousands of women and men across the country are joining in an online virtual march for women’s rights and lives.

The timing of this march couldn’t be more important. The record number of bills introduced last year (and the record number of laws passed) leads us to conclude that politicians are doing this because they think we’re not paying attention and that they can get away with it.

The rhetoric of anti-women’s health lawmakers just doesn’t match the reality of what they are doing. Last night, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels provided the official Republican response to President Obama’s State of the Union address, and he focused on the economy and creating jobs: “As Republicans our first concern is for those waiting tonight to begin or resume the climb up life’s ladder.” His speech came just one day after anti-women’s health legislators introduced three bills aiming to reduce access to abortion care.

We need to let them know we are paying attention and they can’t get away with their agenda.

Here’s how you get involved:

1. Visit the Virtual March here.

2. Choose one of six tailored messages: “I trust women and I vote;” “Reproductive rights are human rights;” “Keep abortion safe and legal, and make it affordable and accessible;” “Stand up and be counted for reproductive justice;” “We are the 99%. Fix the economy, and stop the attacks on women's health;” "Contraception Is Prevention."

3. Add your name to a real-time map which features the thousands of other participants.

When it’s over on Friday, the names will then be packaged together and delivered directly to members of Congress, governors and state legislators to reinforce the message that Americans trust women to make their own decisions about their bodies and their lives. And we’re adding a special touch—We’re watching!

Join us, and the thousands of other women and men who have already participated, by adding your name today!
