Women Are Watching

Who we're watching

About Jon Tester (MT)

In 2006, Jon Tester beat out then-Senator Conrad Burns in one of the closet races that year. Since then, he has always been there for the women of Montana — bringing those Montanan values to Washington.

Jon has earned a 100 percent rating from Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Now he needs your support, too.

As one of the only farmers in the Senate, Jon has demonstrated that he understands the challenges faced by rural women to gain access to quality health care. He opposed the elimination of Title X family planning funds, which help over 16,000 Montanan women and families gain access to affordable birth control and preventive health care.

He was also a staunch advocate of the new health reform law to expand coverage, end burdensome co-payments for preventive health services like birth control, and end discrimination against individuals with pre-existing illnesses.

Next November, Jon faces re-election. His opponent is Congressman Denny Rehberg, a candidate who has targeted reproductive rights and opposed progressive women’s health policies in Montana and throughout the United States. This includes helping to author the Republican budget that would have eliminated funding for family planning, as well as many other draconian cuts that would diminish women’s access to needed health care.

Rehberg’s backward approach toward women’s health would not change if he were elected to the Senate. We can’t let that happen.

The New York Times has already named this race a 2012 battleground. Jon needs your help to continue standing up for the women of Montana.

Jon fought for us, now we must fight for him.

  • voted “NO” on the so called “Pence amendment” to block Planned Parenthood health centers from receiving funding to offer preventive health care services such as lifesaving cancer screenings, contraception, and well-woman exams.

More Quotes from Jon Tester

Jon Tester on November 8, 2011:

"The same politicians in the House of Representatives who claimed that tax cuts for the wealthy would 'pay for themselves' are insisting we take them seriously as they try to balance the budget. Their plan? To end Medicare as we know it, and other gimmicks like cutting basic health care for women. Montanans and many Americans aren't buying what those politicians are trying to sell. (Huffington Post Op-Ed, 5/22/11)

Jon Tester on November 8, 2011:

“At a time in our country when women rely on Planned Parenthood more than ever for essential health care, this invasive and baseless investigation is all the more reprehensible, and is an abuse of your oversight responsibilities. We urge you to immediately cease this investigation.” – A letter co-signed by Senator Jon Tester, asking House Oversight Subcommittee Chair Rep. Cliff Sterns to cease his politically-motivated investigations against Planned Parenthood. (Senators: Investigation is frivolous and fiscally irresponsible, 10/11/11)

Jon Tester on April 4, 2011:

"We also oppose the provision in the House-passed Continuing Resolution that cuts Planned Parenthood health centers off from federal funds used to provide cancer screenings, birth control and other preventive health care services to three million Americans every year." (Letter Opposing GOP Plan to End Support for Women’s Health and Family Planning)
