Women Are Watching

Who we're watching

About Sherrod Brown (OH)

With nearly 40 years of public service, Sherrod Brown has amassed a decades-long record of advancing women’s health care. He votes consistently on the side of women, young adults, and families, and Ohioans are better for it.

Now Sherrod Brown is up for re-election and needs your help to keep his job.

A strong supporter of the Affordable Care Act, Sherrod demonstrates that he understands that women often face burdensome co-pays when it comes to affording basic preventive care. He always strongly supports Title X, the nation’s family planning program, and has stood strong to protect Planned Parenthood health centers’ ability to provide health care through federal programs. As a result, Planned Parenthood in Ohio has helped over 65,000 women access primary and preventive health care, including birth control, annual exams, and cancer screenings.

When women’s health care and reproductive rights have come under fire, Sherrod fought back. He even held a tele-townhall to educate supporters about the devastating effect of these attacks on Ohio women.

He backed up those words on the floor of the Senate, voting against the bill that would have blocked Planned Parenthood health centers from providing women lifesaving health-care services like cancer screenings, contraception, and well-woman exams.

Sherrod has delivered for women in the Buckeye State. Now he’s battling for re-election and we need to have his back.

We need to help him overcome opponents trying to undermine women’s health care and strip away a woman’s right to make private medical decisions with her doctors.

Ohio will again be a key battleground state in the 2012 election. It’s critical that Sherrod’s allies on the ground show their support for the candidate who fights for our health and security.

More Quotes from Sherrod Brown

Sherrod Brown on June 29, 2011:

It’s time that we play fair a little bit better, protect Medicare and protect Pell grants and protect things like Planned Parenthood and have people who have done very, very well in the last two years or 10 years simply pay their fair share." (Rachel Maddow Show)

Sherrod Brown on April 13, 2011:

"But ultimately, we need to work together as Democrats, not to — I would certainly work bipartisanly, but on sound principles like Medicare and Social Security and Pell grants as the president pledged to defend — on issues like that that are really, protecting Planned Parenthood and what conservatives tried to do last week, to defund a group, if you will, that provides primary care to 3 million women in this country — you know, we stand on principle there, we fight together on those things." (Rachel Maddow Show)
